Today is the start of my Camino de Santiago journey! However, it is not a walking day. I am simply a traveler at the airport. Starting at 6 am this morning, my mother dropped me off at the St. George Shuttle station in St. George, Utah. The sprinter van of quiet and sleepy travelers was not full when we left Utah, but the open seat next to me was soon to be occupied as we picked up 3 additional passengers in Mesquite, Nevada. The man who took the seat next to me is a pilot for United Airlines and was heading to work this morning. We had an informative conversation about flight patterns, navigation, and new technologies that improve air travel safety. I have had several questions lingering in my mind that he was capable of answering. He is originally from Grantsville, Utah and is also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We parted ways at the terminal drop-off and I made my way (unusually quick) through airport security. Now I must sit and wait for my flight to Philadelphia. As I wait, I am writing this first blog post and people watching. I still find it strange to see people walking about, seemingly talking out loud to themselves, only to realize they are talking on the phone with a headphone in their ear. There is another man, about my age, traveling with possibly his father or some other close relative. I can hear them speaking Portuguese and assume they will be on the same flight as me from Philadelphia to Portugal. I'll arrive in Lisbon at 9 am tomorrow morning. There is a 7 hour time difference, so it will be 2 am in Utah when I land. Hopefully I can spend the day exploring the capitol city before I start walking on Wednesday. Until then, I am just a traveler at the airport.
Love ya bud!!! It won’t put my name on here.....
